We're asking the community this question:
How would you like Asian-Australians to Reimagine themselves?
If you are one, how would you like to reimagine yourself?
Here’s what Asian-Australians and others said…
( What insights and patterns do you see? )
To be confident
To be authentically me
To be smart and intelligent
To break free from stereotypes
To connect to our cultural roots
To embrace my uniqueness more!
To be seen, heard and acknowledged
To be confident with multiple identities
To feel more confident to break the rules
To be more than a model minority member
To fearlessly follow our passions and innovate
To be more assertive without being aggressive.
To remain my authentic self while still being heard
To have self-belief, self-clarity, and self-determination
To embrace the pioneering spirit that brought us here
To be critical in and a necessity to the Australian landscape
To be free from all expectations and make my own life decisions
To be an infusion of cultures, yet honouring my ancestral grassroots
To be seen as more than just 'nice'
To have more representation in Australian media.
To not be confined by traditional definitions of success.
To be a creator, a changemaker, and a bridge between worlds.
To constantly evolve: Rooted in my heritage, thrive in my present
To go beyond the constraints of cultural expectations and external labels
To challenge norms, inspire others, and contribute meaningfully to society
To cultivate a presence that is both unapologetic and deeply compassionate
To shape a future where I define who I am, rather than letting others define me
To be more than just a product of migration or a representative of my ethnicity
To use both the collectivist and individualist parts of who I am as my superpower
To break out of limiting stereotypes, and embrace a more multidimensional identity
To embrace and contribute the best values and traditions of the 2 countries I belong to
To embrace the fullness of my identity, not feeling the need to dilute my heritage to fit in
To give depth and multi-dimensionality to the emerging, post-colonial Australian culture
To realize the power of their own identify and how it could benefit to the society as the whole
To break away from the "model minority" narrative that often overshadows Asian-Australians,
To be proud of our cultural heritages and the diversity we bring and make Australia a better place
To be limitless
To lead the trend
To expect equity!
To be more empowered
To be without expectations
To be a more confident leader
To go from invisible to unstoppable
To be free as with all community from racism
To have our stories to go out to the world!
To love to collaborate with Asian-Australians!
To be leaders, cultural pioneers, and change-makers
To not be conflated with geopolitical concerns
To uplift others by firstly showing the potential of myself.
To become more visible thought leaders and change agents
To see more Asian-Austalians visible across the spectrum
To share our culture, our communities, our skills in diplomacy
To be a creator, a changemaker, and a bridge between worlds.
To be able to step into their power as their own authentic selves.
To promote our specific history of this country as visible and legitimate.
To be confident and capable, in spite of English being my second language
To be beyond the constraints of cultural expectations and external labels.
To be more than just a product of migration or a representative of my ethnicity
To actively shape Australia’s social, political, and creative landscapes across various fields.
To breaking free from stereotypes, rejecting the pressure to fit into one box,
To celebrate my cultural heritage while confidently engaging in Australian society.
To proudly own the complexity of our identities. We don't have to choose between being Asian or Australian; we can be both and use that blend to create a more inclusive and vibrant future.
To be more confident, have agency, sense of voice, authenticity and unique powers to step into leadership
To be, want and achieve whatever it may be without that desire being "surprising" (i.e. no more stereotypes)
To not feeling excluded, alienated, or treated as an outsider - especially if it's in a country you were born or grew up in
To continue pushing for limitless thinking, redefining success in this dual identity, finding a voice that represents the best of the Asian culture to bridge the Eastern-Western divide.
To take hold of more “mainstream” places of power and decision making opportunities to better influence and impact broader Australian society
To embrace the fullness of my identity, not feeling the need to dilute my heritage to fit in, nor be confined by traditional definitions of success.
To confidently navigate both the arts and the social impact space, using my unique perspective to challenge norms, inspire others, and contribute meaningfully to society.
To prove that success isn’t just about hard work and quiet perseverance — It’s about innovation, boldness, and self-expression.
